Glasses I received for Christmas, handmade in upstate New York. They are so very delicate, but actually quite sturdy... and they make the most beautiful sound when knocked together.

Sherlock's wheatgrass. He makes such a mess, I wonder if any of it makes it into his body, until I clean his litter (eeeewwww!).

Everyone's getting older. I thought Sherlock was indestructible but he injured his leg the other day (he was running around the apartment like a madman). He recovered after a couple days but still does not like me touching his foot.

I think my memory is going with old age.

But I'm just going to keep smiling and taking pictures of myself in bathrooms (and elevators)!

Not pictured is their black label burger (too dark and I was too hungry). More info here about this special burger. I've heard about this burger for some time... and assumed that I would find some fault to it (too big, too greasy, too expensive)... it did not disappoint. I cannot wait to go back!

Infinity

There is an infinity room temporarily installed in a gallery.

It is a room painted matte white, with no visible edges, corners, or lines. It is like being inside of a ball... or a cloud.

It is required to take off your shoes and wear these tyvek booties.

It's a funny effect (unintentional by the artist). A disarming effect that makes the room feel fun and dorky.

We marched in the Occupy Wall Street November 17 protest across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a chilly night.

It was nice to see so many people out, so many different ethnicities and ages, but everyone together for a common cause.

On Friday, we went to Basta Pasta, a Japanese Italian restaurant.

Where the staff greets you with an "Irashaimase!".

Food was delicious. Carefully prepared, as we could see in the open kitchen, in the middle of the restaurant.

Light, but not straying too far from the original Italian dishes.

I am surrounded by computers. Only one is mine (top of the stack) the rest are Josh's (iMac in background and second Air), hand-me-downs (old Macbook Pro), or broken and needs fixing (white Macbook). We actually have a couple more scattered around the house; an old G3 tower and a Powerbook... or is it a Macbook Pro? Also, we have an iPad (first generation) that I haven't used in months.

Why, you may ask...well, I live with someone who likes to collect things, and I like to buy things. It's a dangerous combination!

I didn't have any macarons this time around. Staying on La Rive Droite this time around made for a more variety of foods. I prefer the Droite side. The area I stayed in was crazy with Japanese restaurants. I ate at one (no picture). It wasn't very good. C'est la Vie.

A burger from H.A.N.D. (have a nice day). Funny name for a restaurant. Burger was good, perfectly cooked.

At Rose Bakery. Wanted to eat here again. Did not know that the location in the Marais is open on Sundays. Ended up getting a Crêpe at Breizh Cafe.

And finally, dinner at Le Dauphin. Amazing place.

Brancusi studio at the Pompidou. Kind of an amazing little place. I just happened to walk by when it was open (only open 2pm to 6pm).

At the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. Interesting exhibition where an artist took over the entire museum and scattered his work all over the place, mixing in the with old stuff. I forget what this is called (does it have a name?) but I like it. These dish shaped prints were really cute.

A mushroom dish at Le Dauphin. Delightful, strange, unexpected... Le Dauphin was thrilling, and for the first time I felt truly excited to be eating in Paris. More pictures to come.

I love this beautiful moon rising screen. The black moon is tarnished silver leaf. Can you imagine what this must have looked like with a nice bright silver moon? I kind of like it with the black moon, very ominous.

Roadtrip: Style

I was told I was allowed 30 lbs for my belongings on this trip (my bag weighed 35lbs.). This was a very difficult trip to pack for. We were planning on chilly weather (50˚F ) and up to 110˚F! Baltimore Grand Prix

I saw so many amazing things... not all part of some national park. But, these were the greatest. All the tired & hungry feelings would disappear once surrounded by this natural beauty. We managed to see these things without too many other tourists (something everyone had warned me about). I guess we were lucky? Also, these places are so large, it was easy to find a quiet area where you could enjoy it by yourself. I was often more uneasy about the solitude than the crowds.

Roadtrip

I went on a roadtrip! with Josh, Joel, and Tony. Seventeen days, 8500 miles. If you follow me on Twitter, I hope I gave a good idea of what we were up to. Saw the last of the Harry Potter movies. I am very sad.

Came home and discovered that Sherlock had licked his stomach raw. Bundled him up in a cat straight jacket.

Woke up the next day to see he had easily taken it off!

Filled out a jury form.

After several minutes of searching, found the perfect socks to wear with my ring boots for this summer heat (low but slightly visible).

Waited an hour to eat hiyashi chuka at Totto Ramen. Why did I think there would be no wait on a Saturday at 2pm?

Baked by Melissa cupcakes: small and very easy to eat but a little gooey and not quite 'cake-y'.

Take out from Dean & Deluca: meatloaf and potatoes. Delicious!

I decided this place was so good (and so close to my house!) that it deserved another visit and a post all its own.

Again the cold brewed iced coffee. I had two this time.... I could probably drink like five.

There are so many coffee shops/cafes opening up... it's impossible for me to keep up.. and this is coming from someone who likes to keep on top of this kind of thing. Frustrating? Yeah, because I want to try them all, but I can only handle so much caffeine in one day.... The artisanal/specialty aspect of it all is pretty ridiculous, but in a good way. I'm loving it. I'm happy to have more choices than the local bodega coffee or Starbucks.

Comme Des Garçons Archive Sale

Three (four?) weekends ago was the first ever archive sale for New York. I am not sure where they kept all the clothes, it must have been boxes and boxes in a warehouse!

A lot of it, as you can imagine, was pretty weird and not "day-to-day" wearable. But, I did manage to find this corduroy Junya Watanabe X Lewis Leather motorcycle jacket from 2004 and at 75% off, this was a deal!

Baby birds are kind of awkward in the juvenile stage (as mentioned here before) but I can't stop watching these live streams! It's amazing to be able to watch this kind of nature, live, in the comfort of my home.

I'm in one of those brooding/dark moods. The weather (was warm, now cold and rainy) has got me wanting to just crawl in bed and sleep for days, maybe weeks. Will it be warm in June or maybe July?

Luckily, I just bought a black DRKSHDW vest to keep me looking good during these dark times. We've also been listening to a lot of Soundgarden thanks to Cornell U.

Bicycle

I realize I should have taken off the lock for the picture... I was being lazy and also not quite sure I could get it back on the way it was. Everything about this bike takes some practice.

Today I was practicing pedaling while standing. I was able to do this for short periods of time without feeling like I was going to lose control. Accomplishment!

I am already thinking about getting a new seat. I like this Brooks one.

Winter Into Summer

I don't think I will ever get used to the seasons here in the east coast. Crazy brutal winter gets slightly milder in March/April but still needing a winter jacket and then BOOM! it's summer where you can't even wear a light jacket, it's just straight to short-sleeve or no-sleeves, from wool leggings worn under pants to shorts and sandals.

I'm not complaining really, especially because it is finally warm! and, I got a bicycle!! (more pictures later)

It's a British bike made by the Dunelt Company. It's a pretty bike. It was chosen for me by Tony. I had no idea what I was looking for when we went to the bike store. I was initially attracted to the 80's style road bikes but this older one (from 1962) suits me much better.

I spent last Sunday with Josh and Tony and we biked to the Brooklyn Flea. It was fun and I was relieved that I was able to ride (I was secretly a little worried about whether I would be able to have the strength and the nerve). I am looking forward to my next day to ride, probably over the weekend if the weather is nice.

Mexico City, Part One

I am always nervous to travel, especially by myself, but I fight through the fear. To add to that, I was weary of the taxi situation in Mexico City, but catching a taxi at the airport couldn't have been easier, or less expensive (US$17 for a far distance + no tipping).

I met Josh at the hotel and quickly went out for a bite to eat.

These were the sloppiest tacos ever. And just to give you that 'slap-in-the-face-you're-in-a-foreign-country" feel, the one man making these tacos was using his bare hands to scoop up the pork-soupy mixture onto the tortilla. They were delicious.

Then dinner later.

Food was good (not great) and we all got a kick out of the review printed in the menu from the New York Times from 1968! I wasn't sure whether to be impressed that it's been around that long or concerned that they didn't have more recent reviews...

I really wanted to take this spoon, but I didn't. I thought I would be able to find something like this to buy at some market, but never came across anything like this.

I'm Back!

I was in Mexico for a few days but now I am back. Don't believe the hype about the crime in Mexico City, but do believe the hype about being careful of what you eat.

I felt sort of like this little artifact, with my insides exposed.

Luckily I was fine the whole time I was in Mexico, but just started to feel sick on the airplane back. I'll post more about the trip, as soon as I feel 100%.

It was an epic night. Kind of felt more like a rave than a live concert. It was unfortunate that we couldn't go to the final one at Madison Square Garden, where I blogged about here. I can't complain though. I am writing this as I am listening/watching the live stream of this MSG show!

How Many Quilts?

Not thinking much about this, I casually walked into this show... it's only up for a week and it's free, so, I'll just take a peek and go on my merry way....

I was stunned... I was not expecting this!

They were hung in an enormous, dark room.

They looked like they were just floating in mid air. It was a photographing bonanza!

There were 650 quilts! It was overwhelming, and I need to go back tomorrow!

How Many Lip Balms Do I Have?

From left to right:

Fresh Sugar Rosé - this one is in my bag with me at all times and used all the time. I am almost out, so I am not sure what will replace it. Maybe the same thing?

Nivea A Kiss Of Moisture - on my dresser. Used at mornings and evenings. Almost out of this one too. I think I will replace with the exact same thing. In fact, I think I already have one on stand by (see previous post about my overbuying).

Yu-Be Lip Therapy - On a table where I am mostly sitting at in the apartment. Used infrequently, but sometimes goes missing (Josh likes to take my lip balms).

Jurlique Love Balm Rose - I just got this. It does not have a specific place (yet), so it will float around and very quickly become lost.

Josh brought back a bag of oranges from his and Nate's whirlwind trip to Florida.

I love oranges. These oranges are not the best of quality (I believe most Florida oranges are used to make orange juice). But, if I segment them, they are quite delicious!

I call this orange soup!

It looked a little squished to my eyes (top to bottom). It could have been my glasses though.

By the way, the Manhattan Bridge is very pretty! I didn't think much of it, until I walked up 1/3 of the way, and stood at the suspension tower.

These lights remind me of an old theater marquee sign.

Although treacherous (bikers speeding by, and dark areas for ghosts to hide), I was happy. I need to make more of an effort to explore this city.

Springtime?

I went to Central Park over the weekend to see if spring had in fact sprung.

There were traces of green on a weeping willow and the lawns were covered with new green grass, not sure why.

But really, all I found were these crocus (croci?) and these little yellow flowers on a tree. Pretty, yes, but I want more!

It's been tough to get back in the swing of things. My thoughts are constantly on the events in Japan. I find myself just staring at my twitter feed for any little bit of good news. It's been heartbreaking.
