it's strange using this word to describe blurry, (it's japanese for blurry) anyway, seems like the GEEK thing to say...

Merry Christmas everyone!

big safety pins

there's been something in the air.... that has made these large antique safety pins come out of the woodwork.... lovely things, but i am not sure what they were used for.... (any ideas?)

anyway, i got my filson hood in the mail today (just in time for the dry sunny weather!) and there are some button holes in the back (to attach the hood to a jacket), and i thought the safety pin could be used to attach it to another jacket (i don't own a filson jacket) or, to 'sinch' they hood.

speaking of modifications.. i was successful at sewing in a liner for my cheaply made j. crew bag. i had a small piece of a liberty print fabric, and luckily, i didn't screw up too much...

expensive (for what it is) UNLINED leather bag

and after about 2.5 hours of machine sewing and hand sewing

the part that i screwed up was when i measured the bag, i just measured the top width, and cut the fabric for that measurement, and later realized that the bag gets bigger (wider) towards the bottom! so, i had to sew in a extra strip of fabric. and the hand-stitching to the bag was difficult (to say the least) and it isn't even or straight. oh well.

i know it's Christmas time when we receive blue cheese at work. I'm not a blue cheese eater (because of previously mentioned issues) but a client always sends us this very nice cheese for the holidays.... he used to send these beautiful, whimsical gingerbread houses, but they weren't as much fun because, well, they weren't really edible.

film cameras

i know i was late to the trend... but not as late as this NY Times article!!!

i love these tights.. i wish i were careful enough that i could wear such delicate things, but i think with sherlock, my scruffy nails and general carelessness, i would have snags in them instantly!!

thank you!

Monday, December 15

sherlock has been cross with me the past few days... (i have scars on my arms to show it). we cannot figure out why, but several nights last week i woke up with an angry cat attached to my arm with teeth and all four limbs. It's a frightening experience, but i'm used to it by now. it comes and goes, but usually it happens after we've been away on vacation and he is 'angry' at us. But we've been home a lot and haven't been gone for long periods of time since October.

I guess this is the true nature of a feral cat?

lucky strike

haven't been to Lucky Strike in awhile, but we found ourselves hungry and cold in soho... It's been a long time, for whatever reason, we got tired of it, but i think it may have revived itself on our places-to-eat list (maybe?)

anyway, it was nice that things haven't changed there, except their drink list... no more cosmopolitans! strange... it's been replaced by some kind of fancy mojito cocktail. boooooooooooo!

Thursday, December 4

i'm still trying to 'catch-up' with myself after my trips in october... i cannot believe it is already december! this perpetual feeling of slightly living in the future (always worried or looking forward to something on the horizon) or, feeling nostalgic for the not so distant past (warm weather, travels & vacations) is kind of driving me crazy. it seems like i'll never feel like i am 'living-in-the-moment'... i know, i know... i just have to concentrate and that it is all in my head.

Tuesday, December 2

cool louis vuitton windows

kind of reminds me of a carnival, ferris wheel lights, or something. really nice and festive!!

lactose intollerant

i thought i had beaten this problem, but it is back, and i am suffering from it. but i can't give up the dairy. i love yogurt and i love a good latte. good thing it is too cold for the frozen yogurt.

the Met

i went to the met a couple weekends ago... to see the Morandi exhibit. The show is really beautiful, but i had issues with the space. The space is shaped like a donut and so, it was never clear where the show 'begins'. Also, the walls were covered with a beige-y fabric, that the paintings were hung on, but for some there was an additional fabric covered 'stretcher' that the paintings were hung on, and therefore, i guess, brought out different colors in the painting. I thought it was more distracting and awkward than good.

anyway,i wandered through the french period rooms, because i wanted to compare the Versailles experience... well, it doesn't compare, obviously, but the advantages of not being at versailles, is that i was the only one in most of these rooms....

And, they have quivering fake candle-bulbs.

it's hard to explain, but the entire blub, moves, not just the filament. no one has believed me yet... i know. it sounds crazy. and it's a bit Disney Haunted Mansion for my taste, but it's kind of a neat technology!

cats for obama

how did i ever miss cats for obama??!!

Monday, November 17

thanks to tommy, i'm completely immersed in reading (looking at) Sonya's Shopping Manual. Unfortunately/fortunately it is written in Japanese, so this will be a good reason to really buckle down and practice my kanji-reading.

speaking of shopping, i'm already tired of christmas tv commercials. Also, i am predicting a not-so-festive christmas this year... just me personally. why, you ask? well, i think it's gonna get here before i am ready, and i'm gonna be scrambling around shopping like a crazy person, and then... i'll be too tired for the actual holiday. This basically happens every year, except that this year, i am anticipating this to all happen, so, maybe i won't be so surprised.

am i crazy yet?

getting older?

i'm not feeling a day older.... in fact, i am really enjoying the possibilities of being a little crazy and forgetful (not that all old people are crazy and forgetful, but you know what i mean). it's already trickled in, but i feel like i am at the 'limbo' stage of young vs. old. Maybe there will always be a mixture of young vs. old in everything (especially the way i dress) and that's okay too, right?

so, on the 'young' theme... i have been playing little big planet. A gift from J. It's a wild game, and i'm not so good at it (a lot of timing-your-jumps-perfectly situations that i am not patient enough for) but it is so fun to dress up your character, and, i've done wonders with the interior decoration of my 'pod'.
